History: Born in 1887 near Ft. Worth, Lois Coleman Denton had a long and productive career in art. She taught in the Henrietta public schools until her marriage. They came to El Paso in 1913. She taught in the Adult Education Department of the El Paso Public Schools at the Technical High School for twenty of her forty years in the school system.

After coming to El Paso, she studied with Cyril Kay Scott, Xavier Gonzales, and Vera Wise. In addition to exhibiting her paintings in West Texas and New Mexico, Mrs. Denton exhibited in Dallas, Ft Worth, San Antonio, Los Angeles and New Orleans.

She belonged to the El Paso Art Guild, El Paso Art Association, Southern States Art League, National Society of Arts and Letters and the Texas Fine Arts Association.
